A street in Carlisle is set to be closed for a week for overnight work.
Devonshire Street will be closed to vehicles from Sunday, January 19, for a week, between 8pm and 5am, as Cumberland Council installs new lighting features.
However, pedestrians will still be able to access the street.
The work is part of a wider regeneration project funded by the UK Government’s Future High Street Fund and United Utilities Green Recovery Funding.
The project has already widened pavements, added new seating, trees, and plants, created a single-lane carriageway, and installed two loading bays.
The final touches will see Gobo lighting installed, which projects shapes, patterns, or images, and is often tailored to suit different seasons.
New cellar lights and under-bench lighting will also be added.

Cumberland Council believes the project will make the city centre ‘a more vibrant, accessible, and attractive destination for residents and visitors alike.’
The Council wished to thank the community for their ‘patience and support’ as these ‘exciting’ final touches are completed.
A diversion route will be in place and clearly marked with signage.
Residents can report any issues on the highways network online via the Cumberland Council website or by contacting the Highways Hotline at 0300 373 3736.

The regeneration of Devonshire Street is one of several projects in Carlisle aimed at ‘revitalising’ the city centre.
