“The History of Mummy Horror” Archaeological day to take place at Bolton Museum

Bolton residents are set for an ancient treat later this month, as HORUS Egyptology Society Wigan host their annual Film Day focusing on a cult classic

This year the day will take place on Saturday (January 18th) from 1.30 – 6.30pm in the Basement Lecture Theatre at Bolton Library and Museum, on Le Mans Crescent, Bolton and will be supported by Bolton Archaeology and Egyptology Society.

(Image: Bolton Museum) The full price of the day is £15 for members of HORUS and BoltonAES, and £20 for non-members, both which can be booked online. This includes the talk, film, food and drinks.

The film will be “The Mummy” from 1932, featuring Boris Karloff and Zita Johann and HORUS Patron, Prof Joann Fletcher, will complement the film with a talk about “The History of Mummy Horror”.

Bolton Libraries and Museums to host event on Egyptian royalty

Ian Trumble, Chair of Bolton Archaeology and Egyptology Society said: “HORUS film days are always a popular event, with great Egyptian themed films combined with an on-topic talks by expert Egyptologist Prof Joann Fletcher.

(Image: Bolton Museum)“This year’s promises to be no different, with Boris Karloff’s infamous ‘The Mummy’ portrayal from 1932 and a talk on the history of Mummy horror! This is the first time the HORUS event has been held at Bolton Museum, and also the first time in conjunction with Bolton Archaeology and Egyptology Society.

“Its also fantastic that all proceeds from the event will be donated to supporting excavations in Egypt and Egyptian archaeologists!”
