Three chippies in Eden have been named among the top 50 best fish and chips takeaways in the country.
The winners of the 13th annual Fry Awards have been announced with three of the nation’s top 50 chippies operating in the Eden area.
Angel Lane Chippie, and their roaming Chippie Van, and Shappy Wheels were the only Cumbrian fish and chips takeaways to make it to the final list.
Dan Harding from Angel Lane Chippie said: “We are very proud of our teams who keep our dedication of being the best fish and chip shops/vans.
“This set of awards is the most competitive competition in the country with the most shops entered and we are delighted to be in the top of these shops.”
The chippies that made it onto the list were chosen after months of judging where they were secretly assessed by mystery diners on a range of different aspects.
These include food quality, premises cleanliness, staff expertise, value for money, ease of ordering, and social media presence.
Those with the highest mark make it on to the list, this year’s winners all have 96 per cent or higher.
Gurdat Singh Rathore, from Shappy Wheels, said: “Shappy Wheels are so proud to be named in The Top Fifty mobile catering units, its been a tough journey in the last few years adjusting to rising costs, but we have battled through with continuing to cater for our regular weekly stops at local villages. Servicing the local events, whilst also catering for private and corporate bookings.
“Thank you to all our team and more importantly our customers for your continued loyalty. “
Reece Head, competition organiser, said: “Congratulations to this year’s award winners. Another year has passed and, once again, these shops have shown resilience, adapting to today’s challenges with remarkable dedication.
“At a time when inflationary pressures are being felt, these businesses continue to stay positive and prioritise their customers, maintain exceptional standards, and find innovative ways to keep fish and chips affordable.”
