A police operation has taken place in Burnley, with tickets issued and a driver caught speeding.
On Wedneday (January 15), Burnley Police ran operation merge in Burnley North, which included Daneshouse with Stoneyholme, Queensgate and Bankhall.
10 tickets were issued to cars illegally parked on Brougham Street, New Hall Street, Able Street and Elm Street.
Two speed check sites were enforced with one vehicle caught exceeding the speed limit.
The team also conducted talks at five schools in the area, discussing grooming, hate crime, online safety, assault, drugs and road policing – e-bikes and scooters.
Several key businesses in the area were visited and a representative spoken to around issues they are facing such as shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and begging. Two reports were made to the council for breach of the Burnley Town Centre public spaces protection order.
A police spokesperson said: “Burnley Neighbourhood Policing Team ran operation merge in Burnley North. (Daneshouse with Stoneyholme, Queensgate and Bankhall)
“Operation merge is a community led operation to target issues that are raised on In The Know, Lancashire Talking Police messaging service and other online forums. It was a day of action with lots going on.
“A joint parking enforcement operation conducted on Brougham Street, New Hall Street, Able Street and Elm Street where more than 10 tickets were issued to vehicles parked contravening the parking regulations.
“Two speed check sites were enforced – with one vehicle being recorded exceeding the speed limit
“Ward walks were conducted in joint partnership working with Burnley Council and their anti-social behaviour officer in all three ward areas – engaging with members of the public addressing any concerns they have about their local area.
“The team also attended five schools in the area to introduce the delivery of Pol Ed, a new Police led educational programme. This programme covers a range of topic areas that link to policing priorities, PSHE and Citizenship in schools. Some of the topics include grooming, hate crime, online safety, assault, drugs and road policing – e-bikes and scooters.
“Four coffee with a cop drop-in sessions took place in the Ward areas at: The Chai Centre, Starbucks, Asda and The Prairie Sports Village.
“Several key businesses in the area were visited and a representative spoke around issues they are facing such as shoplifting, anti-social behaviour, begging – with two reports made to the council for breach of the Burnley Town Centre public spaces protection order.
“Numerous officers were out in the community speaking with people and signing residents up to in the know Lancashire Police messaging service
“A dedicated road policing unit was deployed to patrol the ward area to deter and tackle any anti-social drivers
“Overall a really positive day with lots of quality community engagement. If you wish to have your say on the local priorities in your area.”
