Travel hack to ensure speedy ‘relief’ when finding luggage at airport

If you’re someone who experiences significant stress when travelling, particularly concerning the safety of your stylish outfits, rest assured you’re not alone.

Many can relate to the distress of having their luggage lost in transit or not arriving at their destination on their first day of holiday. You’re left with only the contents of your hand luggage and the need to shop for additional items.

However, @thepilottwins shared a tip on TikTok to alleviate such fears during flights. While it doesn’t guarantee your luggage won’t get misplaced, it does allow you to track its location, providing proof of its whereabouts if you need to contact the airport about where it ended up.

For iPhone users, they suggest purchasing an Apple AirTag and placing it in checked-in luggage.

This enables you to “follow your luggage during your trip,” allowing you to confirm whether it has arrived in the same country as you upon landing. “And you can relax because you know your luggage is onboard,” they added, as you can check it just before switching your phone to airplane mode.

They demonstrated how the ‘Find My’ app looks when tracking your luggage. Similar to tracking friends on the app, you can pinpoint exactly where your belongings are, providing peace of mind when the suitcases start appearing on the conveyor belt.

You can even personalise the name of the Air Tag and the emoji used to track it, making it a fully customised experience. At the end of the video, they wrote: “Thank us later”.

Air Tags are currently available on Amazon for £28, down from £35. The battery needs to be replaced approximately once a year, but this can be done easily by yourself.

The peace of mind it provides while travelling makes it well worth the cost.

In the comments section, someone asked: “Will it not interfere with the plane’s radio frequency?”

Another user responded: “Nope, it doesn’t use a cellular network, just Bluetooth.” However, this means that sometimes your AirTag may take a little while to appear after you’ve taken your phone off airplane mode.

Some passengers expressed a preference for not knowing, writing: “That would be so bad. Imagine seeing it on a different plane and then having to worry your whole flight about your luggage not being on board.” The TikTok countered, saying “at least you’d know where it was” when you landed, allowing you to take action.

Another user supported the idea, saying: “I use an Air Tag in every bag that I use…not just the carry-on! It’s just a relief to know where your bag is!”
