Travel warning issued as city centre trams hit by emergency works

City centre tram passengers are being warned to expect disruption amid emergency works. Diversions are in place on the Metrolink network due to works taking place in the Piccadilly Gardens area this morning (January 15).

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) says trams on the Manchester Airport, Bury and Altrincham lines are not stopping at either Shudehill or Market Street as a result of the works. Those services will all run through Exchange Square instead.

It’s not yet known how long the emergency works are due to last. TfGM has apologised to passengers for the disruption.

A Bee Network spokesperson wrote on X: “Due to emergency works taking place at Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester Airport, Bury and Altrincham services are currently operating via Exchange Square, and will not operate via Shudehill and Market Street, until further notice. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Services between Bury and Piccadilly are running as normal, according to the Bee Network app. TfGM has been approached for further details.
