Trent Alexander-Arnold has been told his full focus needs to be on finishing the season with Liverpool, amid persistent speculation around his future.

It is no secret that Real Madrid has made Alexander-Arnold one of its top targets during the summer transfer window, and it emerged last week that the La Liga club had approached Liverpool about the possibility of signing the right-back in January.

Liverpool rebuffed that approach, and in the Reds’ following match, Alexander-Arnold produced arguably his worst performance of the season as Manchester United emerged with a point from Anfield.

Both of United’s goals came down Alexander-Arnold’s side of the pitch, and much of the post-match discussion centered around his display and whether he had been distracted by Madrid’s approach in the build-up to the game.

With Liverpool going for glory on all four fronts under Arne Slot during the second half of the season, Alexander-Arnold has been told he needs to keep his head in the game.

Jamie Redknapp told The Sports Agents podcast: “I think Trent can have off days defensively. You know, there is absolutely no doubt his defensive attributes are far outweighed by how good he is going with the ball. He’s a genius with that right foot. But defensively, he can be found out. And that was certainly one of those days. I’ve seen him have worse games than that. He can have those types of games. He had one. There’s no two ways about it, and they exploited it. But I think now for Trent, he just needs to make sure that he finishes the season really well.”

It was reported by the Sunday Mirror over the weekend that Liverpool had offered Alexander-Arnold a five-year contract offer worth around $97million.

However, Madrid is in a position to be able to offer the player a similar amount of money, as well as a signing on fee which is expected to be well in excess of $100million.
