A MAN from Warrington is among five to be charged by police over an illegal car meet at the Trafford Centre.
The quintet, from across Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire, have been charged with multiple driving offences.
Lewis Bailey, aged 22 and of Thompson Avenue in Culcheth, has been charged with dangerous driving.
He has been bailed ahead of an appearance at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, February 18.
Since the start of the operation in 2023, Greater Manchester Police says it has looked into various car meets, including evidence of vehicles breaching a public space protection order.
A total of 278 registered keepers have been dealt with by councils and courts, with fines totalling more than £12,000.
Chief inspector Michael Parker said: “We take these illegal car meets very seriously. They are advertised and promoted on social media, often with large crowds in attendance.
“These events pose serious risks to both participants and bystanders, including property damage, significant noise disturbance to communities and, sadly in some cases, fatal collisions.
“These events often block public roads and can prevent emergency vehicles from reaching those in need.”
