WARRINGTON will celebrate the Lunar New Year in style next month with a huge celebration in the town centre.
The Lunar New Year is an annual celebration that is marked by billions of people across the world.
Each year is assigned an animal, and 2025 marks the year of the snake.
Marking the Lunar New Year has become a highlight of Warrington’s annual calendar and this year the celebration will return to the town centre once again on February 8 and 9.
The festival is a chance to bring communities together and celebrate Warrington’s growing cultural diversity.
“The Lunar New Year celebrations are a wonderful opportunity for Warrington to come together and enjoy this cultural tradition,” said Cllr Tony Higgins, from Warrington Borough Council.
“It’s fantastic to see the event growing year on year and we’re proud to work with our partners to bring it to life for the local community and visitors.”
Building on the success of last year’s celebration, the programme for the Lunar New Year will showcase a mix of traditional and modern performances.
One such performance will be from Liverpool’s Hung Gar Kung Fu school, which will present their lion and dragon dance alongside a high energy demonstration of martial arts.

On Saturday, February 8, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery and Central Library will host a family activity day between 11am and 2pm. Visitors can enjoy crafts, trails and refreshments all in a relaxed setting.
The Lunar New Year celebration will be delivered by partnership including Warrington Borough Council, Warrington BID, Golden Square Shopping Centre and Warrington Market.
“Lunar Near Year has become a key event in Warrington’s calendar, offering something for everyone and celebrating the town’s diversity,” said Amy Dawber, project manager for Warrington BID.
“This year’s programme will build on last year’s success, and we look forward to welcoming visitors for a weekend of culture and connection.”
Artisan markets will be available to browse between 11am to 4pm on Sunday, February 9, and will extend onto Bridge Street and Time Square.
Traditional arts and crafts workshops will be led by skilled instructors and open for visitors to try, and street food stalls will be offering a variety of cuisines.
The event is free to attend, more information can be found at wearewarringtonbid.co.uk/warringtonlunarnewyear/
