What Ruben Amorim has made of Manchester United kids after watching Under-18s ahead of Youth Cup

Ruben Amorim has watched some of Manchester United’s Under-18 fixtures and is impressed with the commitment on show as the kids aim to progress in the FA Youth Cup on Friday night.

Amorim has been spotted at Carrington watching Travis Binnion’s Under-21 teams, but he also revealed he had watched the U-18s ahead of their fourth-round clash with Preston North End at Leigh Sports Village on Friday.

Adam Lawrence’s U-18s won an impressice haul of silverware last season and they cruised into the fourth round of this competition by beating Coventry City 5-0 before Christmas, with Gabriele Biancheri scoring a hat-trick and Chido Obi-Martin netting twice.

Biancheri will miss the clash with Preston after undergoing surgery and is set to miss a month of action, but United will be favourites to progress. They sit second in the U-18s Premier League North, but have two games in hand on leaders Manchester City and are only a point behind them.

Amorim has shown throughout his career that he is willing to promote youth and he knows of United’s history in the FA Youth Cup, sending the players set to be involved on Friday a message ahead of the first-team’s clash with Southampton on Thursday.

“I know that we won a lot of times, more than anybody in this country,” he said of the competition.

“It’s important for our young kids to feel that feeling of winning, that is really important, you have to bring that to the first team, they have to show commitment, that is really important. What I saw, I saw some games from them, and they really focused on that, and also the coaches.

“Good luck to them, we are supporting them and let’s win it.”
